Frequently asked questions
How do I measure for shin guards?+
Measure from the base of the knee to the top of the ankle bone. Match that length to the shin guard size chart. The guard should stop about 2 inches below the knee and 2 inches above the ankle.
What size shin guards for a 5 year old?+
Most 5-year-olds fit an XS shin guard (about 4-5 inches / 10-13 cm). Look for guards labeled 'Youth XS' or 'Peewee'.
Are shin guards required in youth soccer?+
Yes. US Soccer, US Club, AYSO, and Canada Soccer all require shin guards at every age. Socks must fully cover them.
What's the difference between slip-in and ankle-guard shin guards?+
Slip-in guards are lighter and preferred by U11+ players. Ankle-guard styles include padded ankle wings and are recommended for U6-U10 players who fall more often.
How should shin guards fit?+
The guard should sit centered on the shin, cover from 2 inches below the knee to 2 inches above the ankle, and stay snug against the leg without pinching.
