Press and Recover

Press and Recover is a defending drill for U11-U16 youth soccer players that runs approximately 15 minutes and needs cones, ball, pinnies.

Setup

2v2 in a 20x20 yd grid.

How to run it

Nearest defender presses the ball; second defender covers behind at an angle. Rotate on transitions.

Coaching points

  • First defender: pressure
  • Second defender: cover
  • Communicate: 'press!' and 'cover!'
